Ringling College, 20 Years of Strategic Growth

As we continue celebrating President Larry R. Thompson’s 20-year anniversary with Ringling College of Art and Design, we now take a close look at Dr. Thompson’s lengthy list of achievements with notable highlights such as:

  • Doubling the size of the student body from 800 in 1999 to nearly 1600 this year (record enrollment)
  • Introducing boundary-breaking new majors such as Game Art, Virtual Reality Development, Motion Design, and Entertainment Design, to name a few.
  • Conceiving and realizing architecturally significant and powerful new facilities such as the Ulla Searing Student Center, Larry R. Thompson Academic Center, Alfred R. Goldstein Library, the Richard and Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center, the Ringling College Studio Labs and the soundstage/post-production facility, and the Sarasota Museum of Art and Ringling College.
  • Partnering with the region’s most successful lifelong learning institutions to create the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Ringling College.
  • Working with regional partners to create the Cross College Alliance, a consortium for higher education in Sarasota/Manatee Counties.
  • And so, so much more…

This is why, in recognition and celebration of President Larry R. Thompson’s 20 years as a leader and visionary, we established the Thompson Fund for Creative Leadership. This fund will support projects and initiatives of creative leadership from students, faculty, or staff that are intended to advance our impact on the world.
